I recently read this book called “Essence of Management, and let me tell you this is really a really great book. I am halfway through the book already, I will post a good review when am done reading.
For now I have its preface for you guys:

This book has been developed from years of practicing, teaching, consulting and writing on matters concerning management
It has to be acknowledged that the essence of management, though growing both in extent and in depth, has remained unchanged over the years and has to be so recognized. However, with the changes in environment, socio-political and economic scenario, technological and otherwise, methodology and techniques applied in the realm of management have radically changed as it should. Some indications of the vast changes that have occurred and are likely to occur, to cater to the changing needs, have been addressed.
This book is not meant to be a Text Book but seeks to capsulate the knowledge gained from various sources and original thinkers to whom grateful thanks are due. Knowledge, however, grows with expanding in-depth research and problem – solving experience and that is what has happened also in the realm of management theoretic. This book has attempted to cover the major developments, but has not analyzed in-depth aspects of Operational Research, Information Technology or Organizational Theories, though for the interested, a selected Bibliography has been appended.
It would be satisfying to the author if this book generates positive interest and enthuses the discerning reader to delve in depth in such areas as he/she might deem fit.
Dr. Subir Chowdhury, Retd. Director, Indian Institute of Management has been a constant source of inspiration and Dr. Amiya Barat, my wife, has been a great help during the writing of this book.
Assam Institute of Management, a fledging Institute, with which I am associated, has consented to propagate this and other texts now in manuscript form, as a part of its responsibility towards spreading management thoughts.
